Engineered for Demanding Environments Where Failure is Not an Option
Sinsun stainless steel self-tapping screws are manufactured from grades AISI 304 or 316, providing high resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
The thread is precision-formed, and the point is sharp to ensure reliable fastening of sheet metal, aluminum, and other alloys without pre-drilling.
Quality control is strictly followed throughout the manufacturing process, as well as compliance with international standards and certifications.
We provide a reliable fastening solution with full traceability for critical applications.
-
Material
Our products are made using AISI stainless steel 18-8 and AISI stainless steel 316 grades. Our 316 screws, with added molybdenum, are better at resisting pitting in areas with a lot of chloride, such as on the coast or in chemical processing.
-
Performance
Our threads are precision-rolled after heat treatment for superior strength and a clean, sharp form. A perfect thread match in the parent material is ensured through consistent driving torque and higher strip-out resistance.
-
Process
The batches are passivated with nitric acid following the production process. This removes free iron particles from the surface and enhances the natural chromium-oxide layerthereby ximizing the corrosion resistance for which stainless steel is chosen.
-
Application
From sharp-pointed screws for thin sheet metal to self-drilling (Tek) points for steel framing, we offer a range of points and head styles (pan, flat, hex) tailored to your specific material stack-up and drive requirements.
| Parameter | Specification & Options | Application Note |
| Material Grade | AISI 304 (18-8 Stainless Steel): Excellent general corrosion resistance. | Choose 304 for most architectural and indoor applications. Specify 316 for marine, chemical, or high-humidity coastal environments. |
| AISI 316: Superior resistance to chlorides & acids. | ||
| Types & Points | Thread-Forming: For pre-drilled holes in aluminum/softer metals. | Match the point to the base material. Tek points are rated by thickness (e.g., Tek 3 for ~3mm total). |
| Self-Drilling (Tek): Integrated drill point for steel. | ||
| Standard Tapping: For thin sheet metal. | ||
| Head Styles | Pan Head, Flat/Countersunk Head, Hex Washer Head. | Hex heads allow higher torque; flat heads provide a flush finish; pan heads offer a wider bearing surface. |
| Finishes | Standard Passivated (Clean), or specific finishes upon request. | Passivation is standard and critical for performance. Electropolishing available for enhanced cleanability. |
| Common Sizes | Diameter: #4, #6, #8, #10, 1/4". | Length must allow for minimum 3-4 thread engagements past the point of penetration for optimal hold. |
| Length: 6mm (1/4") to 100mm (4")+. | ||
| Standards | Manufactured to meet or exceed relevant DIN, ISO, and ANSI specifications. | Material certifications and test reports are available upon request. |

1
Q: What is the main difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel screws?
A: The key difference is composition. AISI 316 contains 2-3% molybdenum, which AISI 304 does not. This molybdenum significantly enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion caused by chlorides (e.g., salt, industrial chemicals). Use 304 for general purposes; upgrade to 316 for marine, chemical, or de-icing salt exposure.

2
Q: Can stainless steel self-tapping screws be used with pressure-treated wood?
A: Caution is advised. Modern alkaline copper quaternary (ACQ) and copper azole (CA) treated woods are highly corrosive to metals. While stainless steel performs best among metals, it is not entirely immune. For critical structures, we recommend using screws with an additional barrier coating specified for treated lumber or consulting an engineer.

3
Q: Why did my stainless steel screw seize or gall during installation?
A: Galling is a form of cold-weld friction welding common with austenitic stainless steels under high torque and speed. To prevent it: 1) Use a slower drive speed. 2) Apply a specialized anti-seize lubricant to the threads. 3) Ensure driver bits are sharp and perfectly seated. Our screws are manufactured to minimize this risk, but proper technique is crucial.

4
Q: Do you offer matching drill bits for your self-drilling (Tek) stainless screws?
A: Yes. Drilling through hardened steel or thick materials with a stainless steel self-drilling screw requires significant point hardness. We offer compatible high-quality drill bits and can provide them as part of a kit to ensure optimal performance and point life.
