Why use stainless steel? You should use stainless steel because carbon steel can rust. You need material that won't bleed rust stains or lose its thickness over time when it's outside, near the coast, or in a place where it stays wet. A2 (304) and A4 (316) stainless steel meet this requirement.

A stainless steel concrete screw cuts threads that fit directly into concrete, brick, or block. No sleeve for expansion. No glue that contains chemicals. There is no separate anchor body.

Standard fasteners don't work near salt water. In Florida dock projects, we've seen galvanized screws rust red after just 18 months.

Handrails, balcony railings, and guardrails need anchors that function effectively in cracked concrete.

We suggest that you not over-specify. 304 stainless is a good value if your project is inland and not exposed to moisture all the time. 316 is the only option that won't cause callbacks if you're near saltwater or in an industrial chemical setting.

stainless steel concrete screw anchors Installation: Getting the Performance You Paid For​

The installation of stainless concrete screws is what makes it work. This is what we've learned from 19 years of feedback in the field.
Step 1: Make a Hole

Hammer drills with carbide bits are recommended. The bit must be the same size as the screw (6mm screw = 6mm bit). To compensate for dust, drill depth = embedment depth + 10 mm

Step 2: Clean the hole

Everyone tends to skip this step. Concrete dust left in the hole can weaken it up to 50% weaker. You have two choices: Most effective: compressed air Alternatively, use a hand pump and wire brush (at least 4–5 cleaning cycles).

Step 3: Turn on the screw.

Use an electric wrench or an impact driver. Apply moderate speed – do not drive full throttle Stop when the head touches the fixture. Avoid over-torquing it.

FAQ: Stainless Steel Concrete Screws

Q: What is the difference between A2 and A4 stainless steel?

A: A2 (304) is the most common type of stainless steel used outside. A4 (316) has molybdenum to make it resistant to chloride, which is necessary in coastal and marine environments. A4 costs more, but it prevents callbacks when salt is present.

Q: Is it okay to use stainless steel screws in wood that has been treated under pressure?

A: Yes. Preservatives made of copper corrode carbon steel, which modern pressure-treated wood uses. A2 and A4 stainless steel work perfectly together.

Q: Do I need to drill holes before installing steel concrete screws?

A: Yes. Use a hammer drill and a carbide bit to drill a pilot hole every time. The screw then threads through that hole.

Q: How big a drill bit do I require?

A: Use a 6mm carbide bit for a 6mm screw. An 8mm bit for an 8mm screw. Don’t make it too big; the threads need something to cut into.

Q: Can stainless steel concrete screws be removed?

A: Yes, you can remove them. Use an impact driver to unscrew. You can reuse them in the same hole multiple times.

Q: Are Sinsun screws okay on cracked concrete?

A: Our SIN-SSD series with carbide-tipped threads is designed for cracked concrete and follows ETA-compliant design rules.

Q: How much torque should I install?

A: Stop when the head touches the fixture. Maximum torque values are 6mm–14 Nm, 8mm–20 Nm, and 10mm–30 Nm. Too much torque will strip the concrete threads.
