How to Get the Most Out of Stainless Brads: An Installation Guide
Stainless steel brads don't work like regular steel nails. Here are some tips from years of shop work:
Step 1
Set the correct air pressure. Stainless steel brads are softer than hardened steel brads, but they are also stronger when pulled. For most uses, set your compressor to 80 to 90 PSI. When you apply too much pressure on the brad, it bends in dense hardwoods.
Step 2
Make sure your nailer is clean. Stainless brads are smooth, but can sometimes feel a bit "grippy" in the magazine. A clean magazine with no dirt makes feeding smooth.
Step 3
Try it out on scrap paper first. If you're working with very dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany or ipe, try a few brads on a scrap piece. This will help you achieve the right depth and pressure.
