  • QUICK INSTALLATION TIPS

    • Most bolted joints, especially structural hex bolts, follow this simple sequence:
    • Select the correct grade and diameter - do not use an inferior grade in a safety-critical assembly. Grade 8.8 is suitable for most general engineering applications. Use 10.9 or 12.9 for high-stress applications.
    • Clean holes and threads Debris, paint or rust ruin torque readings and prevent proper seating. A well-made wire brush works a long way.
    • Screw the bolt into the unthreaded hole until the head is firmly seated.The unthreaded part (if specified) should be through the joint thickness.
    • Make sure that the mating surfaces are square and flush before hand tightening the nuts. The nut may be damaged if it binds before impacting the plate.
    • Calibrated torque wrench. Torque to the NTM specification. Over-tightening strips threads; under-tightening invites loosening under vibration. Torque wrenches are not an option in critical joints.
    • For anchor bolts, U-bolts or flanged applications contact our technical department. We provide load spreading washers and double nut locking where necessary.
