    Sinsun Particleboard Screw  Introduction

Sinsun's Chipboard Screw is specifically designed to secure engineered wood products, such as particleboard, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), oriented strand board (OSB) and laminated panels.

With a unique geometric design that sets it apart from standard wood screws, it adapts effectively to the low density and heterogeneous structure of these materials, ensuring a secure, reliable and aesthetically pleasing connection.

Not only does it prevent material breakage, it also ensures the long-lasting durability of assembled components.

    Selection Guide by Material Thickness

Use this guide to choose the correct screw length based on the combined thickness you are joining.

Material Thickness to be Joined Recommended Minimum Screw Length Example & Rationale
Up to 10mm total 13mm - 16mm Joining two 5mm panels. Length allows for full penetration.
    ~16mm + 16mm (32mm total) 30mm - 35mm Standard shelf (16mm) into cabinet side (16mm). Provides ~14-19mm grip in second piece.
    18mm + 18mm (36mm total) 40mm Standard kitchen carcass assembly. Ensures a strong 22mm embedment.
    25mm + 18mm (43mm total) 50mm Fixing a worktop (25mm) to a cabinet frame (18mm).
Fixing board to timber frame/stud Length = Board Thickness + 25-30mm Fixing 12mm OSB to a timber batten requires a 40mm screw for a secure hold in the wood.

Universal Selection Rule: For a strong connection, the screw should be inserted at least 10–12 mm into the main holding material (the second piece). When screwing into the edge of chipboard, always drill a 2.5mm pilot hole first to prevent the screw from blowing out.

Fastening 16mm-25mm Thick Kitchen Cabinet Side Panels

Fastening 16mm-25mm Thick Kitchen Cabinet Side Panels

You need screws that won't split the edges or strip when the door is opened and closed a lot to hold hinges and shelf pins in particle board cabinets.

The double-threaded design makes the material stick better, making it 60% harder to pull out than regular wood screws.

This cuts down on complaints about hinges coming loose over the life of a cabinet.

Assembling wardrobe frames and back panels 18mm thick

Assembling wardrobe frames and back panels 18mm thick

You create stress points when you join vertical panels to horizontal rails in wardrobes.Using regular screws can cause joints to break when they are under stress.

Our 4.0x40mm chipboard screws have a shear strength of over 450 lbs per connection, even when driven without pre-drilling.

This keeps the frame strong, even when it's full of clothes.

Installing Shelves in MDF Bookcases & Retail Displays

Installing Shelves in MDF Bookcases &
    Retail Displays

MDF is prone to surface chipping and offers poor thread-holding power.

When installing 25mm thick adjustable shelves, our screws with a sharp self-drilling point and deep threads eliminate the need for pre-drilling and plastic inserts.

This results in a 40% faster installation process and a holding force of over 300 lbs per shelf bracket.

Structural Connections in OSB Subflooring & Sheathing

Structural Connections in OSB Subflooring & Sheathing

You need screws that can handle the weight of construction and won't rust when they come into contact with concrete to attach 18mm OSB panels to wooden joists.

Our 5.0x80mm screws have a coating that keeps them from rusting and a strong thread that quickly reaches full clamp force.

They are a strong, code-compliant alternative to nails or staples, with a pull-out strength of more than 700 lbs and a coating that lasts for more than 1000 hours in salt spray test.

“When fixing 18mm OSB to timber frames for interior walls, we need speed and grip. These screws drive fast without piloting and don't strip out. The 5.0mm diameter version provides excellent shear strength for the application.”

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q
Do I always need to pre-drill when using these screws?
For most materials up to 22mm thick, the self-drilling point eliminates the need for pre-drilling. However, for drilling into the edge of particleboard, pre-drilling a 2.5mm pilot hole is strongly recommended to prevent blow-out. For thicknesses above 22mm, a pilot hole aids guidance and reduces drive torque.
    Q
What is the difference between PoziDriv (PZ) and Phillips (PH) drives?
PoziDriv is a superior design with additional ribs that contact the screwdriver bit at four points instead of two. This significantly rejects cam-out (slippage), allows for higher applied torque, and extends bit life. We recommend using the correct PZ2 or PZ3 driver bits.
    Q
Can these screws be used for outdoor projects with OSB?
For temporary outdoor structures (e.g., site hoarding), standard zinc-plated screws may suffice. For permanent or semi-permanent outdoor OSB applications (e.g., shed interiors), we recommend screws with a thicker hot-dip galvanized coating or our A2 stainless steel option to prevent rust stains and failure.
    Q
How do I choose the correct screw length?
The screw should be long enough to penetrate the main holding material by at least 10-12mm. A common rule is: Screw Length = Thickness of Top Material + Minimum 10mm. For example, to join a 16mm shelf to an 18mm panel side, a 30mm screw is ideal (16mm + 14mm penetration).
